From July 1st to 5th, 2024, we hosted an intensive five-day training program in Bulgaria focused on empowering young people to become effective agents of change: Level 2: Participation Wizards! Building upon the foundation established in our Level 1 training, this advanced program equipped participants with the strategic skills and knowledge needed to lead impactful community initiatives and engage meaningfully with both local and European decision-makers.
This wasn’t just a training; it was a transformative experience! Participants developed essential skills for advocacy, community leadership, and cross-border collaboration, ultimately becoming more confident and effective leaders in their communities.
A Detailed Look at the Training Schedule:
Day 1: Advanced Civic Engagement Principles: The program began by exploring complex concepts in active citizenship and societal impact. This laid the foundation for deeper understanding, equipping participants with the theoretical framework needed to engage more effectively in democratic processes. The day concluded with a group reflection on personal civic journeys, encouraging participants to think critically about their own aspirations and goals.
Day 2: Strategic Advocacy and EU-Level Engagement: Day two focused on developing advocacy skills, particularly in the context of EU-level participation. Interactive sessions explored the structures and processes of EU institutions, providing opportunities for participants to consider how they could influence policy at the European level. This insightful session included a detailed analysis of successful EU youth initiatives, inspiring participants to think about their potential involvement in similar projects. The day concluded with a discussion focused on the many avenues available for them to actively participate in EU initiatives.
Day 3: Cultivating Leadership and Fostering Collaboration: This day shifted towards community leadership and collaboration. The morning workshop explored leadership styles and effective community engagement techniques. An insightful panel discussion featuring successful community leaders gave participants invaluable insights into real-world initiatives and strategic approaches for driving positive change. Afternoon activities focused on developing leadership skills within teams, promoting collaborative decision-making and connecting with European youth networks. The goal of the day was to equip participants to engage with these networks to enhance their reach and collaborative potential for projects.
Day 4: Transforming Ideas into Actionable Plans: Day four transitioned into the practical application of newly acquired skills and knowledge. Participants were guided through transforming ideas into concrete action plans. Interactive sessions were focused on identifying and strategically utilizing local and European resources, and building collaborative partnerships with key players in the community and beyond. The afternoon was dedicated to developing detailed proposals for community projects that incorporated elements of European collaboration, maximizing the potential impact of their work.
Day 5: Sustaining Impact and Planning for the Future: The final day focused on sustaining the impact of their initiatives and building plans for future engagement. The morning workshop explored long-term strategies and identifying potential European partnerships that could help to expand the reach of their work. This was followed by group presentations, allowing participants to share their completed project proposals and obtain valuable feedback. The program culminated in a celebratory closing ceremony that recognized individual and collective accomplishments, emphasizing the importance of ongoing civic engagement.
